Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi has said that he will support the All Progressives Congress (APC) state caretaker committee members who would contest in the party’s congresses.
Umahi made the declaration during the inauguration of the party’s elected ward executives in the state and an enlarged stakeholders meeting in Abakaliki.
The governor said that the declaration was an appeal not an imposition as the caretaker committee had performed creditably.
“The caretaker committee had not given us troubles and has actively supported this transparent electoral process, in the congress.
“We want people who would not collect bribe or allow those who are not part of this process, to start struggling for positions.
He urged the elected ward executives to support the caretaker committee members who would vie for position as ‘they gave birth to you’
“You should go back to your wards, commence immediate campaigns and ensure discipline among party members.
“You should discipline any party member who wants to cause trouble in the wards because an undisciplined member is worse than an opposition.
“No individual is greater than the party as we would make the APC in Ebonyi, the most disciplined in the country,”.
Umahi assured the ward executives that they would start receiving stipends from January 2022 and that all due payments would be made directly to them.
“We would have a peaceful local government area congress on Sept.4 and I urge stakeholders in all senatorial zones to accommodate all segments of all LGAs transparently,”.
Chief Ideato Okorie, the party’s Congress Committee Chairman to Ebonyi, thanked the party faithful for their orderly conduct during the ward congress and cooperation with committee.
“We have witnessed democracy in action in Ebonyi which made us we recommended to the national caretaker committee to adopt the Ebonyi model in the entire nation,”.
The congress committee chairman announced the list of the APC-local government area planning committee for the 13 LGAs of the state.
