Uzodimma Is Everywhere You Go In Imo, Sam Onwuemeodo Misfire

Hope Uzodimma

… IMO GOVERNOR IS DOING WELL, POSITIVELY TOUCHING LIVES OF NDIMO

By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A

Sam Onwuemeodo doesn’t require any introduction in Imo State. At least, not to the informed and enlightened class, who are media compliant. Primarily, he’s a journalist and publisher. But he served as Chief Press Secretary to Owelle Rochas Okorocha, when he was governor of Imo State. Today, he introduces himself as Special Adviser on Media to Senator Rochas Okorocha.

Recently, he wrote a rambunctious article which he entitled: “Egbu Declaration And Ihedioha’s Generosity To Uzodinma, Others, With His Speech”!

In all of the in and out then back in jives by Sam, he also stated thus: “The truth is that as we speak or the political atmosphere in Imo today, does not elicit or ginger any support for Uzodinma. I do not believe that any of his people would be comfortable with the developments. He has not done anything to strengthen his Camphope Structure. Nor has he done anything to hook up Imo people. That’s what Ihedioha was celebrating”!

It’s that stray rigmarole by Sam into Governor Hope Uzodimma’s political, leadership and governance farm that attracted our attention and warranted this intervention by way of a rejoinder.

As he’s wont to say, please follow us patiently as we carpet Sam and his weird thoughts and thinking about Governor Uzodimma and Ides of 2023/2024.

First, it was too patronizing for a Sam 7Onwuemeodo to think that anybody expected him to say anything good about Governor Uzodimma. He said the negative he was expected to say. Hence, we aren’t out to counter-attack him.

Rather, we wish to use facts and figures to establish the fact that the Governor has continually warmed himself to the people of Imo State and in the process endeared himself deeply to them.

To that extent, the governor is everywhere you go. Yes, the truth Governor Uzodimma is everywhere you go! We can prove that. And noiseless as he is reputed to be, he has been making quality inroads into Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe Zones, with a combination of his Camphope Organization and his office as the incumbent governor of Imo State.

It must be reiterated here that in the sphere of politics, with the decision of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on January 14, 2020, Governor Uzodimma was the most popular candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Imo State. He garnered nearly 400,000 votes, after all said and done. He has remained popular as ever.

In the December 5, 2020 Senatorial by-election to fill the vacant seat of Okigwe Zone in the Senate, Governor Uzodimma excelled as he led the eventual winner, now Senator Frank Ibezim to victory. That was the next election in the State after the 2019 general elections, which he won.

It was a feat which Governor Uzodimma performed in a contest that pitched him against Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Senator Rochas Okorocha and Senator Ifeanyi Araraume and their henchmen in Okigwe Zone. In other words, the governor literarily again defeated them as he did in 2019.

Since after the by-election in Okigwe Zone, Governor Uzodimma has successfully conducted the APC membership registration and revalidation exercise. He has successfully conducted the Ward, LGA and State Congresses. He’s about to successfully conduct the LGA Election.

Along the lines, Governor Uzodimma hosted leaders from across party lines from the 27 LGAs and achieved far-reaching milestones in the stabilization of the political and social realms of the State. And there was peace!

When the State faced the challenge of strange insecurity, the governor ensured that normalcy, safety, security, peace were restored. Agreed there may not be 100% score in security provision, but certainly Imo State is much safer now than it was in the first half of the year, 2021.

In the month of November 2021, there was a worrisome drama in the Imo State House of Assembly. There was impeachment upon impeachment. The House was almost losing it, when Governor Uzodimma waded in on oversight function. And before you could spell House, the House was back to normalcy. And all became cam again!

The heat in the House was doused with the fatherly leadership intervention of the governor. What seemed impossible for the leadership and membership of the House to handle and manage was effortlessly fixed by the governor.

The governor reconstituted the Imo State Council of Elders. He appointed a new Vice Chancellor for Imo State University and the K. O Mbadiwe University, Ogboko, just as he relocated the main Campus of Imo State Polytechnic to Omuma in Oru East LGA, with campuses in Ehime Mbano LGA and this other LGA.

In the Judiciary, Governor Uzodimma has established due presence by ensuring that due process and rule of law prevails in appointment of Chief Judge and judges of the State. He has thereby created room for cordial relationship between the executive and the judicial arms, just as he did with the legislature. I can go and on.

Thousands of Imo youths and women have been trained in various skills acquisition training and empowerment programmes of the government, with a lot of them assisted to become self-employed in various fields.

Salaries and pensions are being paid, though a backlog of arrears that was inherited by the governor still lingers awaiting to be paid as the resources available to the government warrants. But Imo workers and pensioners are getting paid. That’s confirmed by the total absence of protests over non-payment of salaries and pensions.

Sports and sporting events have been restored in the State, with the Heartland FC, the State-owned football club doing well in the league, while the state handball team has been revived. A lot has started working in the sports sector, with the successful renovation and regrassing of the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri and Grasshoppers Handball Stadium, with the Okigwe Township Stadium, Okigwe.

Ndimo are going about their lawful business and endeavours all over the State without fear of molestation as safety and security has been restored. There is a general improvement on the roads and traffic. Obstructive roundabouts have been cleared to ensure good flow of traffic in Owerri City, which has earned world class standard.

With such rich backdrop as is being summarized in the foregoing paragraphs, Sam Onwuemeodo and his biased conclusions about the popularity and acceptability of Governor Hope Uzodimma would easily be waved off and trashed in the trashcan where they belong.

How could Sam’s hate script reflect the truth about a man who has done so much in the three zones of Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe, as well as in the 27 LGAs and the 305 Wards?

A recent assessment by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on the performance of each state of the federation on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Imo State rated quite highly that it wasn’t too far from the positions of the super IGR states of Lagos, Rivers, Abuja, Kano, and Kaduna.

For the avoidance of doubts and to properly guide those that may not know, Governor Uzodimma elicits, gingers and engenders massive support across Imo State. He’s loved by Ndimo that are sincere enough to report all the works that the Governor is doing.

Therefore, it’s sheer falsehood and poor propaganda for Sam to say that Governor Uzodimma hasn’t done anything to strengthen his Camphope Structure. Is he in Camphope? How does he expect to know whether or not Governor Uzodimma strengthens Camphope? It’s also a big lie to mislead the members of the public for Sam to state that the Governor hasn’t done anything to hook up Imo people. He may need to explain what he means by “hook up” in this season of mkpuru mmiri!

Having said that, what’s left is for the reader and Ndimo to gauge the political, social and economic atmosphere of Imo State and juxtapose it with the political, social and economic stories of other states of the federation. The result will wow the reader.

What that simply means is that under the watch of His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, Imo State has been repositioned for greater heights in growth and development. The only difference is that Governor Uzodimma is a silent worker and silent achiever. He does much and talks less!

We’ll now leave it at this juncture, in the hope that Ndimo will be in a position to judge the malicious article by Sam Onwuemeodo vis-a-vis the information crafted with facts and figures about the 3R administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma.

By God’s grace, Imo State must be rehabilitated, reconstructed and recovered!!
