Days after her alleged sextape was leaked on social media, Tiwa Savage finally broke silence on the issue several hours ago. In a post which she made on her verified Instagram page, the singer told people to charge the issue to the game and never to speak on it again.
Well, Tiwa must be commended for owning the narrative and being able to exhibit such level of grit in the face of the scandal.
While talking about the alleged sextape during an interview with American radio host, Angie Martinez, of Power 105.1 before the video was out, Tiwa had disclosed that she was not going to give any money to the blackmailer because blackmailers usually come back for more money. She said she was not ashamed because she was not cheating and her lover was not cheating either, and that they are grownups.
Admittedly, Tiwa did not commit any crime. In fact, some people see her as the victim in this case, and it is not surprising that many have been showing her support in the face of the saga, with some celebrities taking to social media to refer to her as “The Queen.” But was the recent statement from her the ideal thing to say at this point?
Tiwa took a wise step when she decided to go public about the video, and after the video was released, the ideal thing to do should have been to issue a public apology to her fans and the brands she represents. Some people still blame her for allowing herself to be recorded in the first place during an intimate moment with her lover, but this is not the time to dwell on mistakes that were made.
Some of her fans are family-oriented, and may not be happy about what happened. Some of the brands she endorses may also be disappointed with the incident, so apologizing to the public for allowing such a thing to happen in the first place could have been more ideal for her PR.
Well, as the saying goes, we all make mistakes, and sometimes the consequences for our mistakes could be quite devastating. We hope Tiwa learns from what happened, and also pulls through this.
What do you have to say about this?
