Why Buhari Denied Uzodinma’s Request To Travel Abroad

The Nigerian authorities have stated that they have prevented some Nigerian governors from travelling abroad since the lockdown orders that shut down operations at the Nigerian airports. This was gleaned from a statement attributed to the Minister of Aviation, Haidi Sirika who stated that the governors, four of which were of the All Progressive Congress (APC), included two from the Southeast, two from South South, and one from the North Central geo-political zones of Nigeria. The only APC governor in entire South South zone is Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, while the only APC governor in entire Southeast zone is Hope Uzodimma of Imo State. Therefore, if three of the governors are from the APC and two of the governors are from the Southeast zone, then unarguably, Uzodimma is among them. That’s simple deductive reasoning and logic. According to the Minister, who spoke during the daily briefing by members of the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 yesterday, 21st April, “there’s no exception to governors. I have denied several such flights. Including two governors from South South, two from Southeast, and by the way, three of them are members of the APC and I think one is from North Central.” Many Nigerians on various forms of terminal diseases had relied on foreign hospitals for medical treatment, particularly the rich and well-to-do with the wherewithal. They include diabetics, hypertensive, various cancers, HIV positive. According to result of our investigations and feedback by our very reliable and impeccable insider sources, many of such terminally ill citizens have kicked the bucket for their inability to get medical treatments abroad because of the restrictions on foreign travels by the Federal Government and it’s assigned authorities! May their souls rest in peace! The issue now, however, is that the lives of the terminally ill Nigerians are in grave danger. That’s because not only has Nigeria closed her international airports, but also because choice medical tourism countries for the concerned Nigerians had also shut their international airports.
It’s not clear why Uzodimma would have sought to travel out of Nigeria in the thick of the travel restrictions by most countries of the world for COVID-19 pandemic. But it should be recalled that there has been the running story of Uzodimma being terminally ill with HIV infection, which he has reportedly been managing at foreign health facilities for quite some years now. Whatever be the case, it’s hoped that all is well with Hope Uzodimma.
