The wife of the President of Turkey, Emine Erdoğan, on Wednesday, inaugurated Yunus Emre Institute, a Turkish Cultural Centre, in Abuja. 

She was supported by the wife of the Nigerian vice president, Mrs Dolapo Osinbajo, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq. 

Emine said the establishment of the centre was part of efforts to deepen cultural relations with Nigeria. 

The institute, named after the famous 13th century Poet, Yunus Emre, would serve as a centre to increase awareness of Turkish culture, support the learning of the Turkish language and stimulate greater exchange in the fields of arts, culture, science and education. 

On the relationship between Turkey and Africa, Emine said the people of Turkey saw Africa as the rising star of the 21st century, adding that about 14,000 African students had benefitted from the Turkish government’s scholarships.
