The World Bank in collaboration with the European Union has adopted the Anambra model of community development which it adjudged fastest in achieving target.
This decision saw the two world bodies directing staff of State Employment and Expenditure For Results (SEEFOR) and Community Driven Development (CDD) Rivers State to come to under study the modalities of Anambra state Community and Social Development Agency (ANSCSDA) uses to achieve quality projects in shortest period.
They inspected some Community and Group Development projects executed by the Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency in Nawgu community, Dunukofia local government area.
The team leader, Sir Thankgod Amaewhule, who described their visit to Anambra state as awesome, said they were sent by the World Bank and EU to come and learn the secrets behind the state Community and Social Development Agency’s success story.
While commending the Anambra state Community and Social Development Agency for performing creditably well, Thankgod described the level of implementation of community development projects as impressive, adding that they will replicate same in what they do in their state SEEFOR CDDS.
After interacting with the beneficiaries, at different project cites visited, Thankgod advised them to maintain and sustain the projects for posterity.
The Chairman, Chukwuemeka Vulnerable Group Nawgu, benefited a water borehole and skills acquisition center, Mr Uche Okafor during interactive session with the team said they chose the micro projects to avail them the opportunity of becoming independent.
The General Manager, Anambra state Community and Social Development Agency, Mr Chudi Mojekwu said following the World Bank Supervision team visit to the state last three weeks and their level of satisfaction on the project implementation, they will bring in other projects to learn their model on how to execute quality projects in a very short period of time.
Mr. Mojekwu, who described the team as the second batch following the visit of the first team last week, announced that they have shared experiences with them.
He said with the support from the state Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, and co-operation with relevant ministries, they will work harder.
In an interview with our correspondent, Mojekwu said the state ANSCDA has already applied for fund for next year’s projects and that only those communities which executed their projects well may have a chance for another round of projects.
Nnamdi Onuzulike, the communication officer, explained that Anambra State Community and Social Development Agency (ANCSDA) was set up to promote and implement development activities at the grassroot level.
The Agency, he said: is currently implementing World Bank Assisted Community and Social Development Project- Additional Financing (CSDP-AF) in the state which aims at poverty reduction in rural communities using Community Driven Development Social (CDDS) Project Implementation Unit.
It is an EU and World Bank funded project which, he continued which commenced in Nigeria in 2014 with 4 pilot states namely Rivers, Delta, Edo and Bayelsa States aimed at tackling youth restiveness and pipeline vandalisation in Niger Delta region.
SEEFOR CDDS PIU carries out its project implementation in communities using strategic approach of community driven development; that is bottom-up approach.
This informs the appropriateness of having experience sharing and peer learning visit to ANCSDA as encouraged by the recently visited World Bank team to Anambra State.
