Sixteen members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reigniting political tensions in the state.
The lawmakers announced their defection during plenary, citing a “deep and undeniable division” within the PDP as their reason for leaving. Their move significantly alters the balance of power in the assembly and signals a renewed phase of political uncertainty.
