In a landmark victory, 19-year-old Miracle Chukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been elected councillor for Ward 5 in Oyigbo, Rivers State, during the 2025 local government elections.
Chukwu’s win marks a historic shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, made possible by the 2018 Not Too Young to Run constitutional amendment, which lowered the minimum age requirement for councillorship from 25 to 18.
