…..gives free Blood Sugar test, BMI test, BP test to the teachers of the school
WARRI- The Director- General, PHEW Foundation International, Engr. Uche Queen Chigbo has advised teachers and students in different secondary schools to avoid overweight and eat natural and balanced diet working towards weight reduction as such will prevent the tendency for diabetes infections, apart from other causative factors.
Engr. Chigbo made this call during a one day sensitization Workshop and advocacy visit to the students and teachers of Nana Secondary school warri, Delta state while celebrating
the 2019 World diabetes day in grand style.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Anyanwu Johnson,a family Physician who was the resource person lectured the beneficiaries on the theme for this year, “The Family and Diabetes”, with emphasis on what Diabetes meant, causes, effects, treatment and prevention of Diabetes.
“We taught them thirteen ways that will help them prevent diabetes. mentioning the two types of diabetes: Mellitus and family support towards reducing the risk. We taught about diet to reduce carbohydrates, increase vitamins, use natural spices while cooking and reduce fats, Exercise more, lose weight, drink enough water and take fruits as well. We advised them to eat the right foods to promote healthy blood sugar, adopt good lifestyle behaviors, drink coffee regularly, reduce intake of processed foods, eat good diet, quit smoking, cut down sugar or carbohydrates”, PHEW Foundation DG stated.
Miss Amarachi Kenneth lectured the participants on the importance of understanding one’s BMI, explained how to calculate it and encourage them to do it regularly.
Speaking further, Mr. Didioma Anthony, also lectured the Participants on Proper dietary practice to control blood Sugar.

Engr Queen Chigbo stated that this year’s World diabetes day engaged teachers of Nana secondary school as they were received by the Principal of the school, Deaconess Mofe Promise, the Vice Principal ( Admin), Mrs Josephine Ngonnadi, and Vice Principal (Guardians and Counselling), Mrs Justina Wategiri. Eighty (80) of the teachers benefitted from the tests and Sensitization program.
No doubt, Engr. Uche alongside other members of her team, which included amongst others: Dr. Anyanwu Johnson, Mr. Didioma Anthony a dental Therapist, Miss Amarachi Kenneth a Nurse, Miss Christabel Ifeanyi a Nurse
Other Members who assisted were Mr. Godwin Adi, Mr. Ted Atsagbaza, was happy at the success of the exercise.
PHEW Foundation DG stated that her organization will replicate this same sensitization program on diabetes this Saturday at Rumeme Market, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“PHEW Foundation International in keeping with its objectives, today marked the World Diabetes Day in a unique way”, she stated further.
The NGO which has Health as one of its cardinal points, marked the day with the administration of free Blood Sugar screening, free BP and BMI tests on the academic and non academic staff of Nana Model College, Warri south Local Govt.
The Vice Principal Administration, Mrs Josephine Ngonnadi and Vice Principal Guidance and Counselling, Mrs Justina Wategiri who were participants, including other participants expressed their deep appreciation to the NGO for deeming it fit to carry out the program in their school.
