Unlike before when our religion leaders don’t want to have anything to do with politics, it seems the majority of them now dabble into it with one of such person being Father Mbaka.
In the build up to the 2015 elections, Father Ejike Mbaka was among the very few men of God who choose to support President Muhammadu Buhari over the then incumbent president Goodluck Jonathan. Due to the fact that he is a well known and respected Catholic priest in the South East, he played a major role in convincing the people of that region to vote Buhari in during the elections.
But along the line, the relationship between Father Mbaka and President Muhammadu Buhari hit the rocks, a scenario that forced him to withdraw his support for the incumbent president.
With the 2023 general elections being barely three years away, we can’t help but wonder whether Father Mbaka would still be willing to involve himself with politics like he did Iast time, or if he would restrain himself from doing so this time.
From all indications, the official presidential candidate of All Progressive Congress is likely to be Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while the People’s Democratic Party might still choose to present Atiku Abubakar as their sole candidate.
From what we know about the Nigerian political system, anybody who wants to have a chance in the South East may be forced to seek for Father Mbaka’s support, judging from the fact that some people in that region are seeking to break away from the country, the possibility of politicians using Father Mbaka as a mouth piece to gain grounds in the South East is very high.
