JUST IN: Obaseki’s deputy Philip Shaibu joins 2024 Edo guber race

Edo 2024: Shaibu announces date to declare Governorship ambition

The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, has officially announced his intention to run for the governorship election in 2024. He declared his candidacy under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and confidently stated that he is unstoppable in his pursuit of the position.

Shaibu made this announcement at the Biohop Kelly Centre in Benin City on Monday morning.

As a native of the state, Shaibu believes that he understands the challenges faced by the people and is committed to developing the state.

He emphasized that his experiences as the deputy governor have given him firsthand knowledge of the pains and needs of the people, further motivating him to bring about positive change.

Shaibu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside Governor Godwin Obaseki for the past seven years, during which they have laid a solid foundation for the progress and development of Edo state.

He called upon the citizens to rally behind him and support his ambition of becoming the next governor of the state.

It is worth noting that the initially planned declaration of Shaibu’s governorship bid at the Eterno Hotel was abruptly canceled, as the venue had already been scheduled for an event by Governor Obaseki at the same time.

This incident highlights the ongoing fallout between Obaseki and Shaibu regarding their respective governorship aspirations.

The deputy governor who hails from Edo North Senatorial District had earlier reiterated his loyalty to Obaseki, who hails from Edo South, but insisted that he will contest for the poll.

However, Obaseki is believed to be rooting fora Lagos-based lawyer, Asue Ighodalo, who hails from Edo Central, as successor.
