380k Debt: Dele Momodu Denies Owing Abuja Restaurant, Describes Allegation as Political Blackmail

Dele Momodu

Renowned journalist and publisher, Chief Dele Momodu, has vehemently denied allegations that he owed an Abuja-based restaurant, Black Diamond Kitchen, the sum of N380,000 for small chops reportedly supplied during a political event in 2022.

The allegation, which surfaced in a viral video posted by a media aide to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, accused Momodu of defaulting on payment after the services were rendered. The video featured a woman claiming to be the owner of the now-defunct restaurant, alleging that the unpaid debt contributed to the collapse of her business.

However, in a swift and strongly worded reaction sent to the press, Momodu dismissed the claims as a “cheap blackmail and political witch-hunt”, designed to tarnish his reputation.

“I immediately smelt a rat. I have never had any interaction with the so-called Black Diamond Kitchen, neither do I know the owner,” he stated.

He questioned the motive and timing of the allegation, noting that the accuser is being promoted by an individual known for political mudslinging. Momodu added that he has never personally handled such transactions, emphasizing that he has a team of aides responsible for event logistics.

Reacting to a claim that N200,000 of the said amount had already been paid, Momodu described the story as “utterly reckless and terribly irresponsible.”

He further challenged the accusers to provide concrete evidence, including the date and nature of the alleged order, proof of any communication with him, and delivery receipts.

“Let them show proof of order—whether it was made in person, by phone or online. I never ordered anything from them,” he added.

Momodu concluded by calling for a full investigation, demanding the contact details of the woman and her “boss” so legal and investigative actions can commence.
