NAOSS Raises Alarm Over Alleged Political Hijack Plot, Urges Aiyedatiwa’s Intervention

The National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) has raised an alarm over what it described as plans by some political office holders within the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to hijack the association’s leadership and undermine its independence.

Addressing a press conference in Akure, the state capital, the Global President of NAOSS, Comrade Oyelade Hammed, alleged that certain appointees of the state government have been making moves to meddle in the affairs of the student body for political gain.

“Over the past few days, we have observed some troubling events involving certain appointees of the state government, whose actions suggest an attempt to interfere with our independent student body,” Oyelade said, flanked by other executive members of the association.

He called on Governor Aiyedatiwa to wade into the matter, warning that NAOSS would not compromise on its sacred mandate to protect the integrity of student leadership structures across the state.

“Let it be known and clearly understood — the leadership of NAOSS under my watch remains peaceful, focused, and unshakably committed to the security, welfare, and interests of every Ondo State student, home and abroad,” Oyelade stated.

He emphasized that the association would not allow itself to become a tool in the hands of any political actor, regardless of status or office, noting that plans are underway to address the situation through legal and non-violent means.

“We are not against the government of Ondo State — in fact, we have always supported and appreciated any policy or initiative that promotes students’ development,” he clarified. “However, we reject, in strong terms, any move to take over or politically hijack the affairs of our association under any guise.”

Oyelade further expressed concern over attempts to override NAOSS’s democratic structure, describing such acts as contrary to the values of student solidarity, service, and progress.

The NAOSS President concluded by appealing to well-meaning stakeholders, including past leaders of the association, traditional rulers, and other key figures, to intervene in safeguarding the autonomy of student representation in the state.

“To every Ondo State student out there — stay calm, stay informed, and stay united. Your leadership is working, and we will continue to represent you with integrity and courage,” he affirmed.

The press conference marks a significant moment in the ongoing tension between student leaders and political figures within the state, as calls grow for transparency and respect for student institutions.
