Exposing Kids to Danger for Exams Is Shameful – Peter Obi Reacts to JAMB Scheduling

Peter Obi Slams 6:30AM JAMB Exams, Calls Out Nigeria’s Broken Education System

Reacting to reports of teenagers being made to travel in the dark to sit for JAMB exams as early as 6:30AM, Obi described it as reckless and heartbreaking. He warned that kids as young as 15 are being exposed to accidents, kidn*ppings, and unnecessary trauma, just for wanting a better future.

He said the real problem is bigger: Nigeria simply doesn’t have enough universities for its young people. With just about 200 universities for over 230 million people, Nigeria’s Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) sits at a worrying 12%, far below the 40% global benchmark.

Comparing Nigeria to Indonesia, Obi pointed out that Indonesia, with around 280 million people, has over 4,000 universities and a GER of over 45%. Students there don’t have to risk their lives just to write an exam.

“Education is not a luxury. It’s the most important investment any country can make,” Obi said. He called for urgent action to expand Nigeria’s education system so young Nigerians aren’t endangered chasing their dreams.
