The Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has stated that it will be guided by the direction of Governor Ademola Adeleke, following the decision of the state’s three PDP senators to endorse President Bola Tinubu for a second term.

Senator Kamarudeen Oyewumi (Osun West), Senator Olubiyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), and Senator Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East), in a joint statement on Wedneday, declared their full support for President Tinubu, citing his achievements in governance, economic reforms, and infrastructure development.

The senators described Tinubu’s administration as visionary and progressive, highlighting improvements in national security and a reduction in food prices as indicators of effective leadership.

“This endorsement is not just symbolic—it reflects our deep confidence in President Tinubu’s ability to deliver on the promise of democracy. The Osun PDP Senators’ Caucus is united and unwavering in its support. There is no internal dissent; we stand as one,” the statement read.

They also urged the President to “sustain and accelerate his developmental strides for the benefit of all Nigerians.”

However, in reaction to the endorsement, the Osun PDP leadership clarified that the party would look to Governor Adeleke for direction before making any formal declaration of support for Tinubu or any presidential hopeful ahead of 2027.

Osun PDP Director of Media, Oladele Bamiji, stated that while the senators may have met with the President and made their position known, the party in the state will defer to the governor’s guidance.

“Don’t forget that the governor is the leader of the party in the state. The party will also have to defer to the directive of the governor on what to do as regards supporting the incumbent president.

“It is basically on our leader who I believe will lead us aright as to what we have to do in 2027. Whatever decision is taken will be in the best interest of the state, the party, and the evolution of democracy in Nigeria and South-West.

“Our senators are in Abuja and I believe they are having conversations with the President. We are in Osun basically while the lawmakers are making laws for the general good of the country,” Bamiji said.

He further reiterated that Adeleke’s position would shape the collective stance of the Osun PDP and its stakeholders.

“I am sure the governor will also consult widely with stakeholders of the party in the state and will take a collective decision together.

“We are here particularly to look after the well-being of the good people of Osun State. They can be doing their thing there. I believe whatever decisions they have taken, it is also subject to the general resolve of the party in the state under which umbrella they became Senators.

“We cannot take their rights away from them as to their individual permutation or decision, but it will be subjected to the collective decision of the party and leaders of the party in the state,” Bamiji added.
