The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of iconic highlife musician and cultural ambassador, Gentleman Mike Ejeagha, describing his death as a monumental loss to Enugu State, Nigeria, and the global music community.
In a heartfelt tribute released on Saturday, Governor Mbah lauded Ejeagha’s unparalleled contributions to Nigerian music, noting that his unique style of storytelling through indigenous folk songs earned him admiration that cut across generations and borders.
“Mike Ejeagha was a legend, a cultural ambassador, and a revered son of Enugu State,” Mbah said. “He was one of the finest musicians of his generation, with an easygoing personality and a humility that belied his towering celebrity status.”
The governor recalled fond personal memories of the late music icon, emphasizing the warmth, wisdom, and joy Ejeagha brought to all who encountered him.
“Ejeagha’s immense talent and genius lay in how he took simple indigenous folktales and turned them into unforgettable songs that resonate across cultures. His death leaves a huge void that will be difficult to fill,” Mbah added.
