The Presidency wishes to unequivocally debunk widespread rumours suggesting that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), His Excellency Senator George Akume, has tendered his resignation or been replaced. These claims are entirely false, unfounded, and designed to mislead the public and sow confusion within the polity.

There has been no resignation by Senator Akume. He remains in office as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and continues to discharge his duties with diligence and in close alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

President Tinubu, who is currently on an official visit to Saint Lucia, has not accepted — nor received — any resignation from Senator Akume, nor has he made any new appointment to the office of SGF. Any reports suggesting otherwise are the product of disinformation campaigns by individuals or groups intent on causing unnecessary political tension.

The Presidency condemns in the strongest terms the circulation of such fake news and urges the public and media practitioners to exercise caution and verify information from official channels before sharing or publishing.

Senator Akume remains a trusted and valued member of the Federal Executive Council. His commitment to national development and support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda remain unwavering.

We encourage Nigerians to disregard this malicious rumour and to focus on the shared task of building a more secure, prosperous, and united Nigeria.
