Tinubu Appoints Al-Makura As New UBEC Board Chairman

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed a former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, as the new Chairman of the Governing Board for the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the announcement at the launch of the AFD-supported ICT Development Project in 10 selected Nigerian universities.

A businessman and politician, the new UBEC Board Chairman also represented Nasarawa South District in the 9th Nigerian Senate from 2019 to 2023.

UBEC is under the Federal Ministry of Education.

The former Governor has recently been endorsed by some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the North Central geopolitical zone for the vacant party’s National Chairmanship seat, following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje on health grounds.
