Seven federal lawmakers representing Akwa Ibom State have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking another major shift in the state’s political landscape.
The lawmakers, who previously contested and won their seats under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Young Progressives Party (YPP), made their defection known on Thursday in individual letters submitted to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.
The defectors are Unyime Idem, Martin Esin, Paul Ekpo, Uduak Alphonsos, Eteh Ikpong, Emmanuel Udom, and Okon Bassey.
This latest wave of defections follows closely on the heels of Governor Umo Eno’s recent switch from the PDP to the APC, further signaling a growing realignment of political forces in Akwa Ibom ahead of the 2027 elections.
