A political clarification was made on Monday by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, as he reaffirmed his constitutional role as the State Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) asserting that only he holds the authority to appoint party leaders across the 31 local government areas.
The governor made the declaration during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders, elected officials, and grassroots coordinators.
According to those present, the governor stated unequivocally that his position as State Party Leader gives him the exclusive mandate to determine leadership structures both at the local government and ward levels, if necessary.
“As the leader of the party in the state, only I have the authority to designate party leadership across the LGAs, and if the need arises, even down to the ward level,” the governor was paraphrased as saying.
A party stakeholder who witnessed the event said the statement was timely, aimed at calming internal tensions and power tussles in some local chapters of the PDP.
“I want to plead with those desperate individuals trying to forcefully impose themselves as leaders of the party at the local government and ward levels to relax. The leader of the party has spoken, and we must all abide by that,” the attendee said.
