The Nigeria Police Force has approved the establishment of a tactical base in Iviukhua, Agenebode, in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State.

This was following persistent appeals from community leaders alarmed by a spate of kidnappings and farm attacks.

In recent years, suspected herders and other criminal elements have targeted the area’s farmlands, leaving several residents kidnapped or injured and disrupting agricultural and economic activities.

News of the approval was conveyed in a letter of appreciation signed by three key figures: the Onogie of Iviukhua, High Chief Saliu Sule Izuagbe; the President General, Dr Kennedy Izuagbe; and former Nigerian Ambassador to Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia, Ambassador Adamu   Emozozo.

Addressed to the Edo State Commissioner of Police and dated Saturday, the letter described the decision as “a collective effort to restore peace and safety in the community.”

It read in part, “Your physical visit today to our community and subsequent communication of the Edo State Police Command’s approval of a Tactical Police Command in our community has thrown Iviukhua and neighbouring communities into wild jubilation.

“This approval to address the security challenges in our community and adjoining areas remains a legacy that will be remembered as a bright moment in your career.”

The community also assured the police of its full support, stating that facilities meant to house the new base are currently being upgraded to meet operational standards.

They emphasised their commitment to cooperation and hospitality towards officers who will be deployed.
