Deputy Governor Condemns Unauthorized Fee Collection in Abia State

Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, had received reports regarding the illegal collection of fees from motorists by certain impersonators in Ohafia Local Government Area purportedly on behalf of the state government. He is aware of the recent incident involving two individuals who were assaulted by youths from Ebem Ohafia in response to these unlawful activities.

The Deputy Governor strongly condemn this illegal practice and urges all involved to desist immediately. He wishes to state that the Abia State Government does not authorize any individual or group to collect fees or levies on its behalf without proper documentation and official endorsement from the Abia State Board of Internal Revenue. The actions of these unauthorized collectors not only violate the law but also undermine the trust and cooperation between the government and the citizens.

The Abia State Harmonized Taskforce Team Ohafia Zone should step up their efforts in combating illegal revenue collection, reassert its presence in the field and reaffirm its commitment to transparency, accountability, and community service.

He urges all residents of Ohafia LGA and the entire state to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to fee collection to the appropriate authorities. The government is committed to ensuring that all financial transactions are conducted transparently and legally, and we will not tolerate any form of extortion or illegal collection of fees.

The Abia State Government is dedicated to the welfare of its citizens and will take all necessary measures to protect them from exploitation.
