As part of its proactive measures to prevent cholera outbreaks with the onset of the rainy season, the Bauchi State Government, through the State Environmental Protection Agency, BASEPA, has commenced a well chlorination exercise in the state.

Speaking during the flag-off of the exercise on Thursday, Director, Inspection, Enforcement, and Compliance at BASEPA, Muhammad Usman, stressed that the agency is prioritising professionalism to safeguard human lives during the operation.

Usman explained that “The exercise across four local government areas including Bauchi, Tafawa Balewa, Misau, and Jama’are LGAs, aims to reduce the risk of cholera transmission commonly associated with contaminated water sources during the rainy season.

“There is a need for accurate measurements during the exercise, including knowing the volume of water in each well and the exact quantity of chlorine to be applied, to ensure effective disinfection without causing harm.”

Usman noted that data sheets provided to each team must be diligently filled, as the information collected would guide future water safety interventions in the state.

He urged the field teams to remain vigilant and professional throughout the exercise, reiterating that BASEPA is committed to safeguarding the health of residents through practical and preventive environmental measures.
