President Bola Tinubu has called on governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prioritise grassroots engagement and be more responsive to the needs of the Nigerian people.
Speaking at the 14th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC in Abuja on Thursday, President Tinubu emphasised the need for a stronger connection between government and the people, especially at the community level.
“Nigerians are still complaining at the grassroots,” the President noted. “To you, the Governors, you must wet the grass more and deliver progressive change to Nigerians. May God bless our democracy and grant us more fertile lands.”
He urged governors and key stakeholders to listen attentively to citizens’ concerns, invest in people, and stay committed to developmental ideals under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President also encouraged collective efforts towards building a lasting legacy for the party, including the construction of a befitting national party secretariat in Abuja. “We should leave a legacy of development. The governors are here—23 of them—to help identify a land, along with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. We should establish a committee of progressive governors to identify suitable land and construct the secretariat,” he said.
Acknowledging the economic challenges facing the country, President Tinubu reaffirmed that his administration had made significant strides in stabilising the economy, citing the Federal Inland Revenue Service’s record revenue collection of N14.9 trillion in the first half of 2025—an increase of 43 percent compared to 2024.
“It is not easy to navigate the stormy waters of economic instability. Now, the economy is stabilised—there is no fear for the country except for continued upward movement and sustained growth. I can assure you,” he added.
On the security front, the President highlighted progress in restoring safety and reducing fear across the country. “Thousands of terrorists and bandits have been neutralised. You can see that fear is decreasing. However, we must remain vigilant and take the matter seriously. We must invest more in our people, be accommodating, and remain committed to ensuring national security,” he said.
President Tinubu concluded by welcoming new political allies into the APC fold and encouraged governors to open their doors to progressive-minded Nigerians willing to contribute to national growth.
The NEC meeting also observed a minute’s silence in honour of late statesmen, Alhaji Aminu Dantata and Oba Sikiru Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, whose lives and service to the nation were acknowledged by the President.
