Nigerian media personality, Daniel Regha, has criticized the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent cash and housing rewards given to the Super Falcons for their performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Regha, known for his outspoken views on national matters, took to social media to question the logic behind gifting each player $100,000 and a three-bedroom flat, despite the team already set to receive 30% of their prize money from the competition.

He condemned the gesture as a wasteful use of public resources, especially in a country grappling with poverty, rising inflation, and unpaid wages among civil servants.

“For a country that’s crippling with poverty, and where civil servants are struggling to make ends meet, how does this even sit well with anyone?” Regha queried. “Sorry, but this is a misuse of public funds.”

He further questioned whether the lavish gifts were being funded through taxpayers’ money or from the billions the government continues to borrow, stressing that such decisions reflect misplaced priorities at a time when essential sectors are underfunded.
