The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on the Rehabilitation and Operationalization of the Baro Inland Port has summoned the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and Managing Director National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji, over the non-functional Baro Inland Port, despite billions spent on the project.
The Ad-hoc Committee, led by Hon. Saidu Abdullahi, gave both agencies seven days to submit all documents related to the port’s construction, funding, and operational status.
Lawmakers expressed concern that the port, commissioned in 2019, remains unused due to poor access roads, siltation, and vandalized infrastructure.
Representing the MD NIWA, General Manager Ports and Environmental Services Engr Agbahe Fidelis blamed infrastructure deficits and security issues for the delay, while the committee insisted on accountability and promised a follow-up visit to the port for verification.
