In a decisive political move ahead of the August 16 Anambra South Senatorial by-election, Chief Timothy Ibeto, popularly known as Akuenwebe, a prominent APC stalwart and leader of the Integrity Group in Ukpor, has openly declared that the community will not support their kinsman, Chief Emma Nwachukwu (Onodugo), the APGA candidate.
Speaking at his Ukpor residence during a consultation visit by Sir Azuka Okwuosa (Chinyelugo), the APC’s flagbearer and leading contender in the race, Akuenwebe stated that Onodugo has “never had Ukpor in mind” and has brought “immense confusion” to the town. He emphasized that the community rejects him “outright” and will instead back Okwuosa, whom they believe will ensure inclusive representation and address Ukpor’s interests at the Senate.
“Our support for Sir Okwuosa is rooted in our belief that he will run an all-inclusive legislation and make sure Ukpor gets its dues,” Akuenwebe said.
In his remarks, Okwuosa thanked the Ukpor leaders for their endorsement and promised to uphold the integrity and transparency for which he is known. He stressed the importance of electing a candidate from a national party to prevent Anambra South from being sidelined in the Senate.
“With the APC at the center, it’s crucial to have an APC Senator so that our zone will not be marginalized and will have access to majority positions in the National Assembly,” Okwuosa stated, assuring that he would continue the unfinished projects of the late Senator Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
Okwuosa was accompanied by prominent APC figures, including former Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Barr. Rita Maduagwu; Hon. Sir Obi Onwuachu; Hon. Mrs. Amaka Enemchukwu; Hon. Mrs. Uju Onyeanusi; Hon. Grace Unegbe; Hon. Mrs. Nchedo Morah; and other party faithful.
The APC campaign in Ukpor ended on a high note, with community members pledging massive support at the polls.
