The outcome of yesterday’s senatorial by-election, where Sir Azuka Okwuosa lost despite being backed heavily by Ikukuoma, has once again exposed the political emptiness of Ikukuoma’s so-called grassroots strength. If Ikukuoma could not mobilize enough goodwill, influence, and credibility to secure victory for his “illustrious candidate,” then it is clear that his much-publicized political structure is nothing more than noise.
For years, Ikukuoma has carried himself as though the path to Anambra Governmenth House is already paved in his favour. Yet, politics is not about empty boasts, reckless spending, or desperate propaganda it is about credibility, trust, and a proven ability to deliver. Anambra people are politically sophisticated; they do not sell their future to pretenders.
The humiliating defeat of Okwuosa under Ikukuoma’s shadow is proof that his so-called influence begins and ends with his inner circle. His inability to deliver victory to someone he threw his full weight behind simply means that he lacks the political depth, network, and acceptance required to govern a complex state like Anambra.
Anambra deserves leaders with vision, humility, and wide acceptance, not opportunists chasing power for personal glory. If the senatorial race was a test, then Ikukuoma has failed woefully. And the bitter truth is this: if he cannot win the confidence of Ndi Anambra in smaller contests, he will never, till his dying day, earn their mandate as governor.
His governorship dream is nothing but a mirage, a journey that will never reach destination.
