A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has berated a group of youths in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State over their comments targeting former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia.
The youths, who reportedly made the remarks during a political gathering in Omagwa community, had vowed to “retire” Amaechi and Omehia from politics after the 2027 general elections.
Reacting in a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Eze dismissed the comments as “the ranting of vulnerable adults with zero basic life skills and valueless living,” stressing that the individuals involved should focus on acquiring meaningful skills instead of smearing the image of respected leaders of Ikwerre extraction.
He described Amaechi, a former Minister of Transportation, and Omehia, a former governor, as illustrious Nigerians whose contributions remain indelible in the country’s political history.
On the upcoming August 30 local government election in Rivers State, Eze maintained that the exercise is “unlawful” and “an embarrassment to Nigeria’s electoral system,” adding that several court cases challenging its legality would eventually set it aside.
He further warned youths parading as APC members to desist from reckless political statements, particularly against Amaechi, whom he credited with building the APC on the foundation of genuine change before the party, in his words, was “hijacked by political bandits and buccaneers.”
