The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says it has opened an investigation into the suspected suicide of a 30-year-old man identified as Ik Ojo, in the Kagini–Dei-Dei area of Abuja.
The development follows reports (not by the Akelicious) of the suspected suicide in the early hours of Friday, after neighbours found Ik’s dead body in his apartment.
In a video of the incident circulated on social media, some of the deceased’s neighbours questioned the circumstances of his death, alleging foul play.
However, the Police, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Saturday, said it received a distress call on August 5th, 2025, about the incident, adding that operatives from the Dei-Dei Division responded promptly and moved the victim to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
“The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on 5th August 2025 received a distress call reporting the suspected suicide of one Ik Ojo (male, 30) who was found hanging in his residence at Kagini, Dei-Dei area of the FCT,” the statement read.
“Responding promptly, police operatives from Dei-Dei Division visited the scene and evacuated the victim to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy,” Adeh added.
The Spokesperson said the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, has directed detectives to get to the root of the matter and that further details will be communicated as the investigation progressed.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” the statement added.
In May 2025, news had it that the National Emergency Management Agency said the explosion that occurred in Abuja was caused by a suicide bomber.
NEMA stated on its X handle that its team promptly responded to the incident upon receiving the alert.
