47-Year-Old Trader Slumps, Dies at Kwaita Market, FCT

A 47-year-old trader, Mrs Comfort Abdnego, has slumped and d!ed at the Kwaita market in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

Witnesses said the incident happened on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 around 11:23 am while she was attending to customers who came to buy garri (cassava flour).

Sources said the deceased stood up to buy a polythene bag in order to measure some mudu of garri for one of her customers when she suddenly slumped.

Ayuba Felix, a witness, told our reporter that the woman slumped in the process of sitting down.

He said some vigilantes at the market were alerted and they came to rush her to a nearby clinic.

“Unfortunately, she was later confirmed d3ad upon arrival at the clinic. One of the traders at the market, who identified her relatives, contacted them to evacuate her corpse,” he said.

A member of the vigilante, simply identified as Dogara, also confirmed the incident, saying the deceased came from Pache village and her body has been taken away by the family members.

“Actually, the woman always come from Pache village to sell garri on Kwaita market days. We saw people gathered where she sells this morning and discovered that she had slumped and d!ed,” he said.

“Even when the vigilantes found out from the relatives who came to evacuate her corpse, they said the woman was hale and hearty before she left home this morning.”

A police source at the Kwali division also confirmed the incident to the publication.
