Presidential candidate and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has fired back at the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the ruling party described his recent comment about President Bola Tinubu as “treasonable.”
The APC, in a statement, had condemned Sowore’s remark in which he referred to President Tinubu as a “criminal,” arguing that such a comment amounted to an attack on the office of the President and should be treated as treason.
Reacting, Sowore dismissed the ruling party’s position as hypocritical and ironic, citing reports that the APC was declared a terrorist organisation in Canada.
“Isn’t this the same APC that was branded a terrorist organisation in Canada? Wonders shall never cease,” Sowore said, stressing that the party lacked the moral standing to accuse anyone of treason.
He further stated that Nigerians deserve leaders and political institutions that are open to accountability and robust criticism rather than hiding behind threats and intimidation. According to him, attempts to silence dissenting voices will only deepen the nation’s challenges instead of solving them.
The development has sparked renewed debate on the boundaries of free speech, political accountability, and the responsibilities of opposition figures in Nigeria’s democratic space.
