A shocking case of incest has been uncovered in Otulu community, Delta State, where a man allegedly impregnated his biological daughter and is now on the run.

The disturbing revelation was made public by Harrison Gwamnishu, the founder of the Behind Bars Human Rights Foundation, who confirmed that the young victim is currently safe and under the care of one of the organisation’s female volunteers.

According to Gwamnishu, the Foundation is providing the survivor with temporary shelter, medical care, and psychosocial support while authorities have been alerted to track down the suspect.

“Incest is not only a grave moral crime but also a serious violation of the law. We are calling on the Delta State Police Command to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspect to deliver justice for the survivor,” Gwamnishu said.

Under Nigerian law, incest is a criminal offence punishable under Sections 214 and 390 of the Criminal Code Act, which stipulate imprisonment of up to seven years or more depending on the circumstances. If the victim is below 18 years old, the offence escalates to defilement or rape, carrying a life imprisonment sentence under Section 218 of the Criminal Code or Section 31 of the Child Rights Act.

Gwamnishu further appealed to the public for medical, legal, and material assistance to support the young girl and her unborn child as she begins the difficult journey toward recovery.

“This case is another reminder of the urgent need to strengthen protection for children and ensure offenders face the full weight of the law,” he added.
