Residents of Abia State hit the streets this afternoon to protest the sharp increase in electricity bills by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
In videos making the rounds online, protesters could be heard chanting, “Minimum wage ₦70,000, NEPA bill ₦100,000, agent fee ₦200,000, caution fee ₦300,000!” as they marched through major streets.
Many described the new electricity tariff as “unbearable,” calling on both the state government and power authorities to address the sudden hike.
