Selena Gomez wants the Internet to “Calm Down” after fans felt Hailey Bieber shaded the Rare Beauty founder in a new interview.
It all started when Hailey sat down with WSJ Magazine to discuss Rhode’s $1 billion sale to E.l.f Beauty, where she opened up about being compared to other beauty brands.
“It’s always annoying being pitted against other people. I didn’t ask for that,” Hailey told the mag. “I think there is space for everybody. I don’t feel competitive with people that I’m not inspired by.”
While sources close to Hailey tell TMZ that the quote was not directed at Selena and simply taken out of context, fans immediately went on the defensive. This ultimately caused Selena to speak out on Friday night in a quickly deleted Instagram Story.
“Just leave the girl alone. She can say whatever she wants. Doesn’t affect my life whatsoever,” Sel wrote. “It’s just about relevance, not intelligence. Be kind. All brands inspire me. There is room for everyone. And hopefully we can all stop.”
Hailey has yet to respond herself, but let’s hope this is finally an end to the fan-driven rivalry between the two beauty moguls.
