The world’s oldest sitting president, Paul Biya, aged 92, has reportedly won another term in office following Sunday’s presidential election, extending his more than four-decade rule over the Central African nation.

Biya, who has been in power since 1982, is set to continue his long-standing leadership despite growing domestic and international calls for political transition and democratic reform.

Preliminary reports from state media and pro-government sources indicate that the incumbent secured a comfortable victory, though opposition parties have alleged irregularities and voter suppression in several regions, particularly in the Anglophone areas.

If the results are confirmed by the Constitutional Council, Biya’s new mandate would see him remain in office until he is nearly 100 years old, further solidifying his place as one of the longest-serving leaders in the world.

Critics say his continued stay in power reflects Cameroon’s shrinking political space and weak democratic institutions, while supporters describe him as a symbol of stability in a country facing security and economic challenges.

Official results are expected to be announced in the coming days by the Cameroon Electoral Commission (ELECAM).
