The apex Igbo sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has officially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Consensus Igbo Candidate for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement signed by Chief Chinyereze Thompson Ohia, the National Spokesman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and issued on October 24, 2025, the organization revealed that the decision followed a unanimous agreement between Ohanaeze leadership, Southeast Governors, prominent Igbo political figures, and stakeholders from both Nigeria and the Diaspora.

According to the release, the endorsement is a “reciprocal gesture of appreciation” for President Tinubu’s substantial infrastructural commitments to the Southeast, particularly the ₦1.5 trillion allocation for federal road projects across the region.

The unanimous agreement within our ranks affirms that President Tinubu is the singular individual worthy of capturing 99% of the Igbo votes, thus facilitating the continuation of his robust infrastructural initiatives in the Southeast until 2031,” the statement read.

Ohanaeze praised Senator Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works and former Chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, describing him as “a trusted ally of President Tinubu” and the “most capable bridge-builder to mobilize Igbo support” for the President’s re-election bid.

The organization also announced its endorsement of Governor Alex Chioma Otti of Abia State and Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State for second terms in office, commending their “transformative governance” and alignment with the infrastructural vision of Senator Umahi and President Tinubu.

The residents of Abia and Ebonyi States have formally communicated their desire for Ohanaeze Ndigbo to officially endorse the re-election of both Governors for uninterrupted tenures extending to 2031,” Ohia said.

The statement further stressed that the Southeast stands “united and resolute” behind Tinubu’s leadership, assuring the President of massive Igbo support in 2027.

Governors Otti and Nwifuru stand unwaveringly committed to President Tinubu’s re-election campaign. Their dedication to his vision for Nigeria and the Southeast is commendable and clear,” the release added.

Ohanaeze also issued a warning to political rivals and critics of both governors, cautioning that any attempt to challenge them would be met with “the collective strength and resolve of the Igbo people.”

Before anyone attempts to challenge these accomplished Governors, they must first contend with the unity of Ndigbo,” the organization warned.

Concluding the statement, Ohanaeze Ndigbo called on all Igbo citizens to rally behind President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, declaring the endorsement as both “a declaration of intent and a call to action.”
