Former U.S. President Barack Obama has sounded the alarm over the growing food insecurity crisis in the United States, warning that millions of Americans including children and seniors could face hunger if lawmakers fail to act.
Obama highlighted new figures showing that more than 47 million Americans, including one in five children, currently lack reliable and affordable access to nutritious food. He stressed that the surging cost of living has pushed more families to rely on SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), commonly known as food stamps, to meet their basic needs.
Calling on Republican lawmakers to prioritize swift action, Obama urged Congress to ensure continued funding and accessibility for the program, especially ahead of the holiday season.
If they don’t act, millions of children, seniors, and low-income Americans will go hungry,” Obama warned.
