At least 23 people have been killed and 11 others injured following a massive explosion at a Waldo’s supermarket in Hermosillo, Sonora State, northern Mexico, on Saturday, according to local officials.
Sonora Governor Alfonso Durazo confirmed the tragic toll, revealing that several of the victims were minors. Survivors are currently receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
“I have ordered an extensive and transparent investigation to determine the causes of the incident and identify those responsible,” Durazo said in a video statement.
Authorities have ruled out any link to an attack or violent act, indicating that the explosion was not deliberate.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her condolences on X, offering sympathy to the families and loved ones of the victims.
