Journalist Rufai Oseni has commended a Nigerian military officer, Lt. Yerima, for his calm and disciplined conduct during a recent public confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over a disputed plot of land.
According to Oseni, the officer’s response to Wike’s insults and provocation demonstrated integrity and professionalism. “Wike called him a fool, and the soldier simply replied, ‘I’m not a fool, sir. I have integrity,’” Oseni noted, highlighting the moment as decisive in maintaining order and decorum.
Oseni described the exchange as a clash between power and principle, where Wike resorted to personal jabs and age-based assertions, while Lt. Yerima maintained composure and kept his team disciplined. “In that moment, Wike went low and the officer went high. One was shouting ‘Do you know who I am?’ The other quietly showed who he truly is,” Oseni said.
