Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the killing of a school vice-principal and the abduction of students at Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, describing the incident as another disturbing indication of Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation.
In a statement on X, Abubakar also denounced the killing of APC chieftain Umar Moriki and the mass kidnappings in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, where armed men reportedly abducted entire families, including women and children.
He noted that similar violent attacks, killings, and displacements were being recorded in Plateau, Benue, and several other states, while residents of Shanono LGA in Kano were said to be fleeing their communities out of fear of impending assaults.
Expressing deep concern, the former Vice President urged the Federal Government to immediately overhaul the nation’s security architecture, strengthen deployments in vulnerable areas, and intensify intelligence-driven operations to curb the rising wave of assaults on citizens.
He wrote:
I am devastated by the tragic attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, which claimed the life of the Vice-Principal and led to the abduction of innocent students. This is yet another reminder of the worsening insecurity in our nation.
I equally condemn the killing of APC chieftain Umar Moriki and the mass abductions in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara, where entire families, including women and children, were taken by bandits. These acts of barbarity have no place in a civilized society.
Similar tragedies continue to unfold in Plateau, Benue and other states. In Shanono LGA of Kano, residents are fleeing their homes in fear, highlighting a national security crisis that has reached intolerable levels.
Nigeria cannot continue on this path. I call on the Federal Government to urgently review and strengthen its security architecture, deploy adequate personnel across vulnerable communities and intensify intelligence-led operations. Our citizens deserve protection, dignity and peace.”
Abubakar emphasized that restoring public safety must remain a top priority, noting that no nation can thrive amid widespread violence, fear, and uncertainty.
