The long‑running trial of Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu, reaches its climax today. A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja will give its verdict in what can be termed as one of the most politically-charged trials in Nigeria’s recent history.
Justice James Omotosho will deliver judgment on terrorism charges against Kanu, who was first arrested in 2015, fled after bail in 2017, and was rearrested in 2021. He has challenged the credibility of DSS witnesses and filed motions against the Attorney General and security officials, alleging perjury and fabricated evidence.
After a decade of courtroom battles, today’s ruling marks a decisive moment in Kanu’s trial, though appeals are expected to follow.
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court has approved the live telecast of the judgment.
