In a dramatic turn at the Federal High Court, the lead prosecutor, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, has called for the maximum penalty the death sentence for the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
Awomolo, addressing the court during proceedings, insisted that “the only sentence that Your Lordship can impose for counts 1 to 6 against Nnamdi Kanu is the death sentence,” describing the offences as grave acts of terrorism under Nigerian law.
Kanu’s defence team is expected to respond as the high-stakes trial continues. Further updates to follow.
