JAPA: U.S Slams Increment on Immigration Fees

Trump

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced new immigration filing fees, which will take effect from January 1, 2026, following inflation adjustments recorded between July 2024 and July 2025. This revision is part of the annual mandatory update required under H.R. 1.

USCIS stated that “all applications postmarked on or after January 1, 2026, must carry the new costs,” emphasizing that submissions with outdated fees will be rejected, potentially delaying work authorizations, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) renewals, or asylum-related filings.

Key Fee Changes:
• Asylum-related fees: The annual asylum application fee increases from $100 to $102, though it “remains stayed by court order.” The Form I-765 EAD for initial asylum applicants rises from $550 to $560.
• Parole-related EADs: Initial parole EAD increases from $550 to $560, while renewals or extensions go from $275 to $280. Form I-131 for re-parole also increases from $275 to $280.
• Temporary Protected Status (TPS): Initial TPS EAD (Form I-765) rises from $550 to $560, renewals/extensions increase from $275 to $280, and Form I-821 TPS application fee moves from $500 to $510.

Unchanged Fees: Some fees remain the same, including the initial $100 Form I-589 asylum fee, $275 asylum EAD renewal fee, and $250 Form I-360 Special Immigrant Juvenile Fee.USCIS further noted that “annual updates will continue in each subsequent year,” with additional information on inflationary updates for the immigration parole fee to be published later.

This fee adjustment aims to align with inflation and ensure the continuation of USCIS services without disruption.
