Nigerians on social media are calling for the immediate arrest and investigation of Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi after an old video resurfaced showing a widow alleging that the cleric and an associate, identified as Ahmed, charged her ₦800,000 as “transport fare” to negotiate with bandits who had kidnapped her son.
In the video, the woman claimed that despite the payment, the kidnappers later demanded a ransom of ₦500 million for her son’s release. She said the incident happened some time ago but that she decided to speak out due to the unbearable trauma the family endured.
The renewed public outrage follows the circulation of the clip across various social media platforms, with many Nigerians urging law enforcement agencies to question Gumi and investigate the allegations.
