Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Chibuzo Obimma (Ebube Muonso), Spiritual Director of the Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry, has weighed in on the ongoing debates surrounding the sentencing of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, calling for renewed efforts toward peace, unity and political dialogue.

Speaking amid heightened reactions across the country, Fr. Ebube Muonso emphasized the responsibility of Igbo political leaders to take a firm and united position on securing Kanu’s release. He noted that the current atmosphere demands sincerity, courage, and a collective push toward justice and national cohesion.

His comments align with growing criticism from several US-based Civil Society Organizations, which have accused some Igbo leaders of failing to demonstrate the needed commitment in the struggle for Kanu’s freedom.

The groups allege that personal political interests have weakened a unified approach, despite long-standing concerns over marginalization in the Southeast.

In recent days, prominent Igbo figures including Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central have intensified calls for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to adopt a political solution in resolving Kanu’s case. Umeh stressed that dialogue and reconciliation remain essential to easing national tension and fostering unity.

Similarly, the Ijaw National Congress (INC) has reiterated that the issues fueling Kanu’s agitation are political in nature and should be addressed through political engagement rather than prolonged confrontation.

Fr. Ebube Muonso’s intervention adds to the mounting voices advocating peace, unity, and a pragmatic resolution to one of Nigeria’s most sensitive political issues.
