Bandits who abducted the Ojibara of Jebba (Bayagan) in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Kamilu Salami, have demanded ₦150 million for his release. The traditional ruler was seized on his farm on Saturday morning.
According to Vanguard, the abductors contacted the community early on Sunday and allowed the monarch to speak with them as proof that he was alive and in their custody. During the brief conversation, Oba Salami reportedly urged his people to negotiate with the kidnappers to facilitate his swift release.
The monarch is said to have disclosed that he was transported for more than five hours on a motorcycle through dense forest before arriving at the gang’s hideout, where the ransom demand was issued. As of the time of the report, negotiations had not commenced; the call was primarily to inform the community of the amount required.
Oba Salami also revealed that several other individuals were abducted from a neighbouring community during the period he was being taken away.
The monarch was kidnapped around 9:30 a.m. by armed men who stormed his farm wielding rifles. Bayagan remains one of the key communities in Ifelodun LGA of Kwara State.
