An advance security team attached to the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, came under attack in the early hours of Tuesday, December 2, 2025, near the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Imo State.
The ambush occurred between Umuowa and Ihite Junction, close to the airport entrance, while the three-man security team was on official assignment ahead of the governor’s movement.
In a statement released shortly after the incident, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Citizen Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, confirmed the attack, noting that although the official vehicle was targeted, Governor Otti’s main convoy was not involved.
He further assured the public that no lives were lost, and security agencies have commenced investigations into the incident.
