Police Arrest Suspected Notorious Bandit Linked to Attacks on Security Personnel in Benue

Police operatives in Benue State have arrested a suspected notorious armed bandit allegedly responsible for multiple attacks on security personnel in the state.

According to information obtained by Akelicious, the suspect, identified as Yongu Justine Makwagh from Kadarko in Nasarawa State, was apprehended on Friday around 8:00 p.m. at Balcony Park in Makurdi after months of sustained surveillance.

The operation was reportedly led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Daudu, acting on credible intelligence, with support from operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on special duty.

Sources revealed that Makwagh has long been on the police command’s wanted list over his alleged involvement in several deadly attacks in the Sankera axis.

He was said to have been linked to the killing of two Safer Highway Police personnel at Yelwata, as well as two operatives of the Department of Operations (DOPS) in Daudu, during which firearms were stolen.

Police authorities have described the arrest as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle bandit networks across Benue and neighbouring states.

The suspect is currently in custody undergoing interrogation, while investigations continue to recover additional weapons and track down his accomplices.
