Katsina Police Arrest Suspect Over Murder of Nursing Mother and 10-Month-Old Baby

Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have arrested one Sahabi Rabi’u suspected to be in connection with the gruesome murder of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village of Faskari Local Government Area of the state.

Rabi’u, 35, according to a Thursday’s statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu, lured the victims to the outskirts of Sheme village where they killed them.

According to police investigation, Rabi’u and his accomplices were involved in a paternity dispute with the nursing mother, which escalated into her brutal murder along with her 10-month-old baby.

Rabi’u and one other suspect now at large, allegedly conspired to eliminate the victim and her child over the paternity dispute.

After killing the mother and her infant, the police said the suspected hooligans bunt their corpses and “throws them into a nearby well.”

“The bodies of the victims have been recovered, and the suspect is in custody. Efforts are being made to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspect”, the statement added.

During interrogation, the police said the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence in synergy with his friend who is now at large.

The statement further quoted the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, condemning the act and describing it as “barbaric and inhumane”.

He assured the public that the command will ensure justice is served, as no stone will be left unturned during the investigation.

The command appealed to the public for information that may aid the investigation and lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect.

While assuring that information provided will be treated confidentially, the command said further developments concerning the incident will be communicated in due course.
